How Life Experiences Shape Our Perspective

What’s Getting Better with Age? My Perspective, My Purpose, My Voice

As I reflect on my journey through trauma, incarceration, healing, and now a path of ministry, one thing I can honestly say is getting better with age is perspective. Life hasn’t been easy. In fact, for much of it, I was just trying to survive. But over the years, something has shifted. The pain I used to curse has become the soil where wisdom has grown. The failures that once brought shame are now stories I use to encourage others. I’m not the same man I used to be, and thank God for that. With age, I’ve gained clarity. I see now how every loss, every detour, every dark season had a role in shaping the man God is still refining. What’s getting better with age isn’t just my understanding of grace, it’s my ability to live it out, to speak life into others, to walk with compassion and truth. My voice carries more weight now because it’s anchored in lived experience, redemption, and a deepening relationship with God. The older I get, the more I realize: my life was never meant to be perfect, it was meant to be a witness. And that, more than anything, is what’s getting better with age.
