Eternal Gains: The Ministry of Reconciliation and Healing – Ze Selassie

“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee go, and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou has gained thy brother.” — Matthew 18:15

There is a quiet tragedy in unresolved pain. Hearts drift apart not always because of hatred, but because pride, silence, and woundedness build walls where healing should have been sought. Christ understood this deeply. That is why His instruction was never centered on humiliation, revenge, or public exposure. Instead, He called us toward courageous reconciliation.

Too often, we protect our pride while losing people God intended for us to preserve. We rehearse offenses instead of pursuing restoration. Yet Heaven measures victory differently. According to Jesus, the true gain is not winning an argument, but winning back a brother or sister.

This passage calls us into the difficult work of grace. Grace is not passive. It does not ignore wrongdoing, nor does it weaponize pain. Grace confronts with humility, speaks with compassion, and seeks redemption over destruction. There are moments when relationships fracture because humanity is imperfect and emotions run deep. Still, the believer is called to carry a ministry of reconciliation in a world addicted to division.

Forgiveness does not mean pretending the wound never happened. It means refusing to allow bitterness to become our identity. Some conversations will not end the way we hope. Some individuals may reject accountability or refuse peace. Nevertheless, we remain responsible for the posture of our own hearts. Scripture reminds us, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men” (Romans 12:18).

Kingdom living requires emotional maturity and spiritual discipline. It demands that we resist gossip, avoid unnecessary public conflict, and choose healing over hostility. The enemy delights in fractured relationships because division weakens witness. But every act of restoration reflects the heart of Christ.

Perhaps today God is calling you to release resentment, initiate an uncomfortable conversation, or reopen a door that pride once closed. Eternity is too near, and the mission too sacred, for us to allow unresolved conflict to consume the spaces where love should dwell.

The greatest victories are often unseen. Sometimes the eternal gain is simply this: a softened heart, a restored relationship, and a soul reminded that grace still lives here.
